NBA stars are scoring big in the fashion world

Basketball players’ style — largely in the men’s league, but increasingly the women’s too — has become a bonafide pillar in fashion media and consumption. Basketball players’ style has more eyes on it than any other sport, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Mitchell S. Jackson told CNN. “(The league) was the first to embrace it,” Jackson, author of the recently released photobook “Fly: The Big Book of Basketball Fashion,” explained. “Basketball players are so much a part of American culture. Bettman/Getty Images/Courtesy Workman“We talk a lot about current NBA tunnel style, but the league has been America’s most stylish for decades,” Schube continued.

The decision to remove Bakish as CEO comes as Paramount Global closes in on a merger agreement with Skydance Media. A number of large common shareholders, including Gamco Investors, Ariel Investments, Matrix and Aspen Sky Trust have publicly criticized the deal, arguing it destroys value for common shareholders. Paramount Global shares jumped about 5% in premarket trading Monday. Typically, Paramount Global shareholders, such as Gabelli, would compare an offer to the standalone company's prospects — hence his comments about not seeing a sale at all. But by removing Bakish, Redstone and the Paramount Global board are now throwing the status quo into chaos.

The Dubai flooding last week illustrated how urban engineering is failing a major climate change test. The United Arab Emirates' city and others like it built on previously uninhabitable areas reflect 20th century urban development ideas that result in the blocking of natural water absorption systems. What's known is that Dubai was built on sand, a natural environment which lets water seep into the soil very easily. But by pouring massive amounts of concrete on top of Dubai's natural terrain, the developers effectively blocked the soil from absorbing water. Plastic products don't absorb water well, and when they end up in landfills around the world, massive piles of trash contribute to a global backup of natural drainage systems.

CNN —At least 20 severely decomposed bodies have been found in a boat off the coast of northeastern Brazil, officials say. The boat was found on the coast of Bragança, northeast of Pará, on April 13, the Brazilian Federal Public Ministry announced Sunday. Officials said at least 20 bodies had been found in the boat, but due to the decomposition of the remains it’s unknown how many died on the boat. The deceased are not thought to be from Brazil but possibly from the Caribbean, investigators told CNN Brasil. Police deploy at Vila do Castelo port in Braganca, Brazil, on April 14, after fishermen reported spotting a boat laden with decomposing corpses off the coast of Para state on Saturday.

Picking berries to help feed his familyLucas Oliveira, 13, of the Fazendinha village outside Macapá, is one of these children. The stories of harvesters who’ve fallen from trees are numerous — some have had severe injuries and never walked again. Açaí harvesters expose themselves to the perils of the rainforest. Of those, at least 756,000 worked in what the International Labor Organization calls the worst forms of child labor, which includes “dangerous” conditions. Dozens of times a day, Lucas Oliveira climbs trees to bring down heavy bunches of açaí.

The event aimed to create buzz around the DN7 Festival, set to be held in March at a stadium in Maspalomas, a tourist resort on Gran Canaria, El País reported. The dunes are considered a special natural reserve with "incalculable ecological value," according to the official tourism website for the island. Wall Street returned to its winning ways this week — and Nvidia 's blowout earnings report Wednesday night was a big reason why. Twenty-six of our 32 portfolio stocks have delivered their results this earnings season (we didn't own Abbott Labs at the time of its report). It was a muted week for macroeconomic data, but we did get a slightly better-than-expected January existing home sales report on Thursday. In the week ahead, two more Club names are set to report earnings before a market-moving economic update arrives Thursday morning. The two other reports of note are the January new home sales report on Monday and ISM Manufacturing report on Friday.

Frustrated by falling pay and intensifying competition on delivery apps, some gig workers are turning to "bots" — apps and other programs that claim to help them optimize their earnings. AdvertisementBots can "negatively impact other drivers"Using a bot violates the delivery apps' terms for workers, the companies told Business Insider. One called "Spark Ninjas" supposedly captures orders automatically on Walmart's Spark delivery platform. Bots appear to be just one way that some gig workers are improving their earnings. Paramount Global shares got a boost last week after reports of a potential takeover offer , but the media company could still prove a rare losing bet for Berkshire Hathaway , its biggest institutional investor. The media company's Class B shares climbed almost 5% last week to close Friday at $14.43 as investors cheered billionaire media mogul Byron Allen's $14.3 billion buyout bid. Allen Media Group offered $21.53 for each Class B nonvoting share of Paramount, about 50% above the 90-day average price. The Omaha-based conglomerate owns 93.7 million shares of Paramount nonvoting Class B stock, or a 15.4% stake, according to FactSet. It may have been the case that Berkshire was betting on Paramount being an acquisition target.

Later, walking down my block with the bunch of pink roses I had picked out, I heard a man say: “Wow! ¡Qué lindo!”I turned and saw my barber and his buddies working on a car.

Disney, Paramount Global and NBCUniversal have all pegged 2025 as their flagship streaming services' first full year of profitability. An agent of the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) inspects a tree extracted from the Amazon rainforest, in a sawmill during an operation to combat deforestation, in Placas, Para State, Brazil January 20, 2023. "Our current knowledge of the functioning of the Congo Basin ecosystem is really very, very limited." The Democratic Republic of the Congo, home to most of the forest, had the second highest rate of tree cover loss in the world last year after Brazil, according to Global Forest Watch. The scientific effort is modelled on the Science Panel for the Amazon that in 2021 issued a roughly 1,300 page report summarising the scientific consensus on the Amazon rainforest, the world's largest. More than 300 scientists are expected to contribute to the Congo report, Tshimanga said.

The state government established the program in a decree published on Monday and sets the target of individual tracking of all 24 million cattle in Para by December 2026. Cattle ranching in Brazil is linked to nearly 24% of global annual tropical deforestation and approximately 10% of total global greenhouse gas emissions, the conservancy said. Para has Brazil's second biggest cattle herd behind the west-central state of Mato Grosso, according to government data. REUTERS/Alyssa Pointer/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK, Nov 14 (Reuters) - A New York trial judge has narrowed Warner Bros Discovery's lawsuit against Paramount Global (PARA.O) over the rights to stream "South Park," the animated comedy featuring foul-mouthed children. She also dismissed a claim that Paramount failed to act in good faith, because that claim duplicated Warner's breach of contract claim. Warner sued in February, saying Paramount breached the agreement by providing only 14 new episodes, and diverted other new "South Park" content to its Paramount+ streaming service under a $900 million agreement with Parker and Stone. "South Park" was launched in August 1997 on Comedy Central, owned by Paramount. The case is WarnerMedia Direct LLC v Paramount Global et al, New York State Supreme Court, New York County, No.
